An entertaining and short book about the middle school experience by a middle school striving for popularity. I found the main character obnoxious, but then I was probably obnoxious when I was a middle-schooler so I bet kids that age (the intended audience) will relate.

I can honestly say that I've read through these books many times. And I can say that I love them. I am always reading them when I'm in a slump of some sort or when life gets tough (which happens!).
I enjoy escaping into Greg's self-absorbed and immature mind. He is a funny character, and is well written. I like the fact that Jeff Kinney didn't try to make him this great, nice guy who's always trying to help others. He's very into himself, and really only cares for himself, which I can appreciate. I love that about these books, and the humour is great!

alternative title - "diary of a terrible kid"??? diary of a whiny kid?? diary of someone I never want to be friends with or have my children be or befriend. anyway, it took everything in me to not give this a one (1) review, mostly because the writing is not horrible, but the MMC is a horrible child. I'm still in shock because what the actual...... anyways, I have lost all other words to say about this. I would not recommend unless using this book to read with your children to teach lessons on how not to be kind.
I read this when it initially came out as a child. I adored it back then, but looking back it wasn't the wisest reading choice.
