I was hit with the strong urge to know the story of the nutcracker the other day. I sat through a bad recording of the very stunning ballet and knew a lot was missing... so then I scrambled and scrounged together this book, desperate for answers.
This book reads easily despite being written in the 1800s. The world is whimsical and vivid. There's pacing issues, but honestly that comes with the territory. I still have questions but at the end of the day, this was the vivid and strange story I hoped it would be

Eigentlich war mir die Geschichte von E.T.A. Hoffman leider etwas zu eingestaubt. Die märchenhaften und weihnachtlichen Erzählmotive haben mir zwar gut gefallen, aber die Erzählung an sich und die Figurenbilder waren dann doch sehr einseitig.
Was das Buch aber zu einem besonderen Leseerlebnis macht, sind die wunderschönen Illustrationen von Robert Ingpen, die sehr atmosphärisch sind und einen in die fantastische Welt des Nussknackers mit hineinziehen.

Bezaubernde (pun intended) Geschichte. Als Werk der Romantik sehr opulent in den Beschreibungen, daher ist der Schreibstil sicher Geschmacksache. Ich persönlich hatte große Freude daran.
