There is absolutely nothing I can say about this that hasn't already been said. 5 ⭐ horror masterpiece.
- Political historical horror set in Argentina
- Some of the best characterisation i've ever read - Juan, Rosario, and Gaspar are REAL to me, along with so many of the side characters
- Possession, cults, family drama, war, rebellion, revenge, abuse, love, sex...so many facets of horror in one that make it so layered and multidimensional
- also it seems like half the characters are queer and no one ever makes a big deal out of it which is super cool especially for the historical setting

Reading this book is a crazy experience, the story is like nothing else and it takes focus and patience for things to be revealed and to understand the relationships of the characters to each other. There are many stories within stories. I don't know if I've ever read a novel this thick. I loved it but I found the many mundane details and repetitiveness a bit tough.

I’m so happy I reread this book!!!
I read this book last year and almost immediately after finishing knew I would give it a reread. I gained so much understanding and enjoyment from the reread and I will definitely read it again in the future.
I love how complex the story and the characters are. I love how we learn about history and politics through the setting. I love the commentary on class and family. This story is so intentionally crafted and unique.

Objectively this book is 5 stars. My personal enjoyment of the reading experience was 4 stars.
Kind of wish we got to see more of the magic/rituals.
There were some points where I was genuinely uneasy because of the creepiness.
Definitely want to reread in the future.
