The plot was hard to follow sometimes, but that can be the fault of the reader, as much as it is the writer's. I will definitely read the other two books in the series, as I am a sucker for who-done-its.
My Libby hold finally came up and I finally read this book. I thought it started slowly but picked up, and I understand what the fuss is about. Interesting old adults who crack wise and get things done, while staying informed and figuring out new technology.
A few too many bodies for my liking, but I enjoyed the book and will read book 2 - when my Libby hold finally comes up.
I wish I could watch the new movie but it is Netflix only, grrr. Should have been released in theaters.

I liked it, I didn’t love it. I liked the writing style, the pacing, Joyce’s diary entries, the general British nature of it all. I really, really liked the four main characters.
I guess it was just…darker than I was expecting? Maybe I’m showing my hand here in terms of what I’m sensitive about, but I think anything “cozy” can have maximum one charactercommit suicide throughout the course of the story. After that it becomes real depressing. Which is fine if that’s what the book is trying to evoke. I don’t know. Maybe it’s cause I just read Murder at Gulls Nest, which I thought toed the line between cozy and traditional mystery very elegantly. I think this book was going for something similar but the execution was just sloppier.
Anyway, that’s a lot of criticism for a book I did ultimately enjoy. The four main characters are lovely, the mystery unraveled in a satisfying way, and Coopers Chase was a fun and interesting setting. Four people in a retirement homeoutsmarted the cops to solve a murder , what more do you need than that?
