Oh ik heb hier zoveel plezier mee gehad! Cozy, charmant, grappig. De karakters waren hier de grootste sterren voor mij. Ahja, ook af en toe ook 'n traantje. Maar voornamelijk plezierig.

what a fun mystery read!! i loved how every chapter was a different perspective so you never knew what you were going to get. the cast of characters are so quirky and lovable - very quintessentially british! a perfect pallet cleanser and summer read by the pool
Woo look at me finishing 2 books in one day!
This book was on my to-read list for a while. I remember it making the rounds in book clubs and honestly, I thought I would enjoy it more. A murder mystery involving kooky old people? Sign me right up! But reality has to disappoint and I feel very let down by this book.
Things I like:
The characters are quite fun. It's nice to read about older people, they have a world of experience and shock horror, can therefore be interesting.
I'm actually struggling to come up with things that I like about the book, so on to the things I dislike.
Things I dislike:
The perspective changes. It felt incredibly discontinuous, and it meant that even though the characters themselves were fun, I feel like I barely know them. We have 4 main characters and the only one that I feel like I vaguely know is Joyce, who has a couple sweet moments with her daughter and we get insights into her thoughts and feelings through snippets of her diary. I would have loved to know more about Elizabeth, or Ibrahim, or Ron, but most of what we do know about them is told to us by Joyce, who can be a bit unreliable and sidetracked at best.
Those bloody perspective changes also meant that I barely have any idea what's going on half the time, what with characters being introduced left right and centre. In fact, I'm not even sure who actually was the killer in the end, it was just a casual confession to someone who was clearly suffering from some form of dementia, so it may have just been something they said to appease them.
I don't really want to go on but it was hugely disappointing and I don't think I'll read the next few books in the series. I think I might have enjoyed it in a different setting, but I'm not sure that's entirely true.
