THANK GOD omg. I looooved „On Earth we‘re briefly gorgeous“ by ocean Vuong, so I was even more disappointed when „night sky with exit wounds“ just wasn’t for me. I was a bit scared that it would be the same with this one, but „time is a mother“ is gorgeous! IMO all the things that bothered me in NSWEW were improved. The poetry didn’t feel as pretentious anymore and I was happy to read some beautiful lines in this one. The book lost one star for me because the form of the poems was distracting at times.

After I finished reading I continued to flick through the blank pages that come at the end, needing to finish it properly

I’m not really into poetry most of the time, but Ocean Vuong is such a sorcerer with words, I couldn’t wait to read this one. Since I’m not a poetry person, most of it was likely wasted on me. But the parts I understood were beautiful. I read Dear Sara many times, it’s my favorite.
