Great fiction - 3 (4) generations - good science, NY/emigrants, Soviet / gender / life / regrets / trying to do the right thing (fix things). I really enjoyed this book.

This book had its ups and downs. I agree with other reviewers that Raisa and Daniel’s story was the most compelling and the easiest characters to root for.
I do appreciate the overarching theme of getting stuck in bad cycles and the trauma of the mother wound.
The characters’ decisions were so frustrating at times.
I loved the plot point about Anna but being bisexual and wished she could have been with Yulia and that Yulia had returned those feelings. And I hope Anna and Daniel find their way back to loving each other again

Compelling characters and absorbing plot, but I am deeply uncomfortable with its conclusions and pat ending.

Anna is a scientist who jumps to 1992 during the Chernobyl explosion to find that her daughter Molly is dying. Story jumps back and forth between Anna, Molly and Raisa( mollys daughter). It was a good book and different but it’s really not about preventing Chernobyl, it’s about preventing Molly’s death. I will say that both Anna and Molly are both horrible mothers. I felt bad for yulia and lazar who adopted Molly and also for Yasha who is Molly’s father. Raisa is a decent character. She gets involved because Anna reaches out for her help thru Molly’s comic books. I enjoyed learning about a different culture. I didn’t like that yasha died at the end.

The book felt a little slow for me in the first half but once we got to Raisa being a young adult it really got more engaging for me.

Love what it has to say about generational trauma and the similarities and differences between these three women. If you can get into it, it’s a great read.

This is good. Not quite my normal fare...a little more fiction than science fiction, but does a great job making the time travel believable. Felt like it took a month to read, but that's because I had a helluva week, not because of the book.
