Time traveling to heal generational trauma. It's slow, the writing isn't super engaging. But the story is heartfelt, sometimes painful to read. The ending is satisfying.

i think this book really had potential that was spoiled by the time jumps. The frequency, changing realities, etc made it hard to be emotionally invested in the relationship development. Considering this whole book seemed to be based on relationships...eek. However I really did enjoy the 'jewish immigrant' themes - I feel like a lot of soviet or Russian Jewish stories don't include what it's like to be Jewish in America, much less a Russian Jew during the cold war.

Characters 7/10
I would've enjoyed the characters more of it weren't for the time jumps distorting their personalities and giving me whiplash from the back-and-forth of it.

Atmosphere / World building 4/10
Decent. Really could've been better

Writing Style 5/10
Oof. The writing felt rushed and amateurish. Really not my thing.

Plot 6/10
So many plot holes, so little time.

Character Growth 5/10
Again, the time jumps, in my opinion, were not well done and really did the characters and their relationships a disservice.

Dialogue / Relationships 7/10
Regarding the familial relationships - I think I would've enjoyed it more if the time jumps were less frequent - the different relationships between the same characters changing and flipping back and forth so much made it pretty hard to relate to (or even keep track of, in some points).

As for the romantic relationships, I think they were incredibly well done and felt like real, flawed relationships.

Enjoyment - 8/10
I really did enjoy the book despite it's flaws, and would recommend. The Soviet Jewish/immigrant experience and American Jewish identity aspects made it worth the issues.
