This seems to have many of the elements I would enjoy in a book but it wasn’t a hit for me. I wonder if reading it on audio was my biggest issue with it. The author narrates it and gives some of the characters comedic voices that didn’t always fit with the tone of the writing. Even beyond that though, I thought that she explained too much on the page…a lot of “telling” as they say. It was very engaging though and I raced through it to find out what happens.

I think this book was okay. It deals with some triggering themes but I don't think the writing and detail did the themes justice. I really liked the premise but I think the three main themes of self harm, domestic violence and homophobia needed delving into more. Or maybe there were too many for this length of book.

This book just wasn't for me. I kept debating on whether to even finish it. In the end, I'm glad I finished it, because the last quarter of the book was way better than the rest for me.

This was such a beautiful story, I love the complexities of love and what a family can look like. This does have heeaavvyyyyy triggers so read with care. This is a multi POV story and at times I found it difficult to separate the voices and where we were in time, if it was present or a flashback moment.

⚠️- repeated self harm (some explicit scenes), homophobia and slurs, murder
