but that head...the woman he carries...who can know her truth? who lives to remember her?

an interesting twist on these stories and the notion of who controls narratives passed on. when to speak and when to be silent. when to fight and when to influence.

Reading this right after [b:Stone Blind: Medusa's Story|60445291|Stone Blind Medusa's Story|Natalie Haynes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1647606202l/60445291._SY75_.jpg|95253272] felt...redundant, but then again, two books in a row of Perseus being a little shit is also entertaining. Though the women in this one are particularly frustrating and enabling.

Beautifully written but I can't just read the story of an abuser from the point of view of the women he abused. The world is too shit for that right now.

There were some new spins on myths that I hadn’t read that I enjoyed. It was Perseus as seen through the 3 women woven in his story but not heard from- with a different view point and different outcomes than the traditional myth. I’ve had her first book on my shelf for months and haven’t read it so i will be now

I don't know why I was so shocked at everyone being human and having non-fantastical things happen.

This was a unique retelling.  The author took away all the magic of the Gods influence and told the story through the eyes of Danae, Medusa, and Andromeda.  It shows the dark side of life that usually comes with mythology but puts the blame on human decisions and consequences instead of Zeus' influence.  It was sad and hopeful at the same time.  I think I went into this expecting the women to be almost over-the-top strong/brave/heroic since it is a retelling that is supposed to shine a light on the women in his life.  While you do get glimpses of this, you see more of their indecision and the consequences that come to them from it.  I think the effect is impactful all the same.

Runs you through the wringer emotionally, unsatisfying ending, gorgeous world building/depictions of ancient cultures.
