i really like how reflexive gwen is
The first half of this is like if you mixed Deadpool with Tumblr, which, uh, yeah not great. But the second half starts to clean up and is really enjoyable and fun. I'll read the next volume
Wow that was weird. But kind of awesome. The art was odd, but basically worked. Mostly it was the attitude and that was right. The handling of the known characters - even Howard the Duck was done well. Batroc was turned into a sympathetic character. There were so many little inside jokes. It should have just been cute and annoying. I suppose it was cute and unannoying. But pants would have been better.
It was alright i guess. The plot is kind of weird but it did make me fall in love with Gwen's character. Also the part where Dr. strange took her out of the comic book pages was probably my favourite part.
I was skeptical because of the pantslessness and I thought, "What, so Deadpool but pink?" But it's not that! (YAY) It's the most meta comic book. Like Deadpool, she knows she's in a comic book and breaks the fourth wall. Unlike Deadpool, this is because she's a normal comic book geek who got zapped into the Marvel Universe! So she has no combat training, no skills, but she has little care for consequences and an encyclopedic knowledge of everyone's secrets!
What pushed this to five stars for me is the way the comic leans into the questions of morality in Marvel comics, why are some deaths tragedies and others ignored? What about the poor extras? It pays off big by giving us some delightful side-characters like Ronnie of "Big Ronnie's Custom Battle Spandex."
I'm definitely going to follow the series and see where else it probes deep!
