I enjoyed this for the same reason I enjoy The Unbeatable Squirrel-girl; it's light, fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously.
If you like Deadpool, his knack for the inappropriate, and love of violence, then Gwenpool is probably a comic you'd enjoy. Gwen Poole is from the "real" world, has read comic books her entire life, and then somehow manages to insert herself into the Marvel universe. She is fully aware of who she is and what she's doing, and she's determined to make herself a hero with her very own story. It helps that she knows everyone, their histories, secret identities, etc. She uses that information to survive in the beginning, but after a few comics she tries to learn basic fighting skills. Her only source of information has been the internet, so I'll let you come to your own conclusions.
I love her snarky personality and the unexpected things that pop out of her mouth. If you're her friend, she will try to keep you safe, but Gwenpool has a borderline scary obsession with violence and killing. She sees people as extras in her story, which means to her they are expendable. Unfortunately, the supporting characters don't see things that way, and they want to fight for the lives they believe themselves to be living. Have I lost you yet? If this sounds even the least bit interesting, I highly recommend that you read it! It will make more sense when you do, but know that with Gwenpool there will always be a little bit of confusion.

This was a fun Graphic Novel, and I'm excited to read more.
Gwen is a great character and the perfect person in today's Marvel Universe. I really enjoyed her "I'm the protagonist so I can't die" attitude and self awareness. She's equal parts Deadpool and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

The official explanation is that Gwen Poole (a person in our world who has read a lot of comic books) is transported to the Marvel Universe, and buys a costume because she knows that in this universe you're way better off being a hero than a bystander. But it's really just an excuse to have a hyper character with a whole lot of genre savvy and insider knowledge play with the comic book tropes. Kind of like "Six Characters in Search of an Author" but for comic books. I don't know if it will age well, but this first volume was a lot of fun and I bought the second.
Honestly I have mixed feelings about this comic. I liked how Gwen was morally ambiguous in a special I'd read, but some of her actions have crossed from a grey area to just being negligent and gross.
Due to her running around selling dangerous diseases to Hydra and being an unwilling but opportunistic henchman to a supervillian she's not very sympathetic to me and I don't understand why Doctor Strange would help cement her place into his universe. I guess it's possible he wasn't fully aware of her behavior but the undeserved gentleness she's been treated with by a few different people just feels odd, since responsibility is often times a large theme in other Marvel stories.
However, I do really like her character design and she is entertaining so while I really can't tell if she's been set up to experience any development or growth I do plan on continuing for at least another volume of her series.

I really really enjoyed this. Beautiful and colourful art and I really like Gwen. She's snarky, but also naive and super bad at the superhero business but it's so fun to read about?? Solid storytelling, and would 10/10 recommend to fans of female-led comics, especially if you like sassy heroines!
When I grow up, I want to be Gwenpool.
As in, read all the comics, learn EVERYTHING about the Marvel heroes, jump into their universe, and become a Deadpool-esque hero who meets everyone.
Absolutely LOVED this, it was funny, smart, and full of comic book jokes. Gwen was a fantastic character to read about, and was so relatable, seeing as she's a massive Marvel comics/movies fan. Also, I love her hair. Her hair is EPIC.
I have to say though, may favourite scene was the scene where Doctor Strange see's who's playing him in Gwen's world. Beautifully meta, and a moment I've been desperate to read for a LONG time now.
A great read, worth the wait by a mile, definitely going to be on the look out for the next volume!
