A good short read, a little gorey, and a lot of lunacy
i bought this for $3.99 ($3.99!!!!!!!!!) from a goodwill ($3.99 at goodwill!!! what is the world coming to??) in hibbing Minnesota because the cover looked cool and it was short but man did i not like it
if there were a few less similes and useless waxings poetic maybe the plot would have made more sense, as is though it was mostly just confusing, not scary, and annoying to read. The characters were extremely unlikeable and it was not clear at all how any of them actually knew each other or what their complicated relationships were supposed to be and it was hard to parse what was happening and why with all of the try hard flowery language. It kind of felt like spoken word but if it was also a straight to dvd horror movie. Even the meta stuff about horror movies didn’t work because it was so obvious and therefore had no impact. I feel like I’m really ragging on this but i just didn’t think it succeeded in anything it tried way too hard to do.

I liked the tropes of this one and how she meant it to be kind of like a B-horror movie but in literary form. It's not my favorite of Cassandra's works, but I enjoyed it and it was a really quick listen.

Take a shot every time the narrator says “broad quarterback shoulders”
Good writing, good setting, very atmospheric. My one question is why these characters hang out together when they all clearly hate each other. But this was a lot of fun for a night of dark classical music, whiskey, and a hot date with a good book.
mysterious
I don’t know any Japanese but this book is littered with Japanese language. So there’s a lack of understanding with that. The plot jumped in ways where I hardly could connect the plot together. The book was 10x more a complicated love story rather than horror. And it felt like everything was happening because “why not” instead of a coherent story…
