I read this in 40 minutes standing up in a bookstore, following my friends around with my peripheral vision.

I devoured this delicious morsel in one sitting.
I've been seeing so much hype for this book and the cover is so terrifying I thought the story would be as well, I was wrong.
The characters were all insufferable and I didn't particularly care about any of them. The story felt so rushed and was so badly written I kept finding myself zoning out. This reads more like a random story someone wrote and posted online rather than a book that went through editing and publishers before making it onto shelves.

Could barely get into this because most of the story centers around the characters arguing constantly, it felt like there wasn’t as much focus on the horror and suspense in the story.

This book was short enough that it captured my attention, but I think if it hadn't been a novella, it would have lost me. The characters' history with each other was interesting, and I wish we had gotten a bit more information. The horror aspect was a little confusing to me, but the atmosphere kept me engaged. I really appreciate the Japanese history and folklore brought into this, but I think I needed a bit more of that history explained to me in the book.
If you want a bite-sized bloodbath, this is the one for you! I’ve really been enjoying fully immersing myself in creepy books this month and am happy to share this one that was released yesterday. I would recommend this to horror lovers as well as Japanese history and folklore buffs. This is about a group of five friends, two of whom are getting married. The friends travel to Japan to celebrate the destination wedding in this mansion rumored to be haunted by a bride with a painful, unresolved grudge (I KNOW OMG). The friends all carry some emotional baggage into this home, which is obviously fodder for the bride to have some fun with. She will prey on their secrets, their loyalty to each other, and of course their physical bodies so she can end up with someone to bring back into the walls of the house to keep her company.
This is a sharp novella at just 124 pages. As with many short horror books that I’ve read, I love looking forward to how rapidly the story escalates into absolute carnage. I was a fan of how self-aware it is that it’s a horror story, even pointing out who in the book is going to die first based on common tropes. There is a lot of Japanese vocabulary throughout the story, so context clues and Google will be helpful for you if you are unfamiliar. Also, the prose is so refreshingly lyrical it will stop you in your tracks; there is a sample on the next photo from the beginning of the book that I loved.
