I really liked the wiring style but there were times I kept getting sucked out of the story. Really enjoyed the horror, I was getting really worried for these characters.

I'm excited to read more from this author but I could not get over hating reading these awful characters. It was giving one dimensional slasher teen cast that I care nothing about. The setting, writing, and spooks were great though.

Honestly, I expected more from this book. The first part, where Khaw describes the location in exquisite detail, the ghoulish yokai painted on the walls and the imagined dead within them captured my imagination with ease. Unfortunately, I lose the thread a few pages onward as the characters lose what little sense they had and galavant around the mansion, spouting horror tropes without any actual intention of following them. The ending is similarly limp, seeming to be over both way too fast and way too easily. That said, I did really like the setting and that's really half the battle.
