Love the prose in this. Khaw has a beautiful style and I love how she describes things

Comical, I didn’t believe for a second that any of these people were friends at any point in the book. The motivations of any of these characters were so confusing and annoying, Talia spent the whole time there being jealous and trying to make Cat seem like such a pick me girl for just existing. Faiz was such a bad “friend” the whole book and was just downright idiotic and went from 0 to 100 insane real quick. Phillip just flip flopped the whole time from being the cool chill friend that stops people from fighting or arguing to having the shortest temper known to man, Cat was just there. The book would not have been any different if it was in 1st person or 3rd person watching Talia, Phillip, Faiz, and Lin, the only one that made sense was Lin when he was trying to hightail it out of there before any of the dumb shit happened.

What if The Haunting of Hill House took place in Japan, with people who already know each other and hate at least on other person in the group? That's more or less what this book is. It is a solid horror story incorporating Japanese spirits, but it isn't revolutionary. If you want a quick horror read or some Japanese inspired horror, give it a read, you'll not be disappointed.
