I can see why people hate this. The writing can be overwrought at times, the characters are unlikeable, and this book is very Japanese in a way that can be confusing to people that need cultural context to enjoy a book. That being said, I loved this. My only problem was that the writing, while beautiful most of the time, was also scant on description, which made it hard to orient myself within the house.

Boring

Really really love the cover art for this book but the story itself was pretty meh. It's a little horror novella about a group of friends who rent out an old japanese mansion only to find out it's haunted by a bride who asked to be buried alive so she could wait for her husband. It's meant to be a fun, quick read and it delivers on that front. While I found some of the writing a bit clunky and it pulled me out of the story, I still would have given this 3 stars if it actually scared me or created the tense, eerie atmosphere I was looking for. Sadly, it didn't. If this had been a full novel and we had more time in the house, maybe it would have! A bit disappointing, but I do want to get into horror more if anyone has recs!

Atmospheric but way too flowery and verbose

A slender disappointment

A tale of four supposed friends who don't seem to have ever liked each other, along with a fifth passed-around, in an unlikely setting with barest character development and a flawed fanfic kind of writing with flimsy detail masquerading as depth. Initially, I gave it two stars against my better judgement, but then went with one star.
