Absolutely loved this poetic prose horror novella. This author uses figurative language to its horrifying peak to convey a horrendous event with friends gone wrong.

Whoever praised that book as "the haunting of hillhouse of this century" was lying to me!!
The concept could have been something interesting but none of it was fleshed out enough.
Instead of on the horror we focus on the petty squabbles of a group of dislikable "friends" which could have been interesting in and of itself but that didn't really go anywhere also.
The most grating thing for me where the constant meta comments about horror tropes and the excessive use of the word "dude" in a supposedly life-threatening and scary situation.

I really wanted to like this book based on the premise. However, what I got instead of a horror based on a haunted house was poorly developed characters and a plot that revolved around interpersonal conflict that is not explained or expanded on instead. Although it was a quick read so for anyone interested, I would say it won’t hurt.
