A thoughtful read-alike for Rebecca Stead's middle grade novel "When You Reach Me," but likely too slow - and perhaps too verbally complex, in the futuristic and textbook scenes at least - for most readers ages 8-12. I don't know how many kids that age are all that interested in late 1990s pop culture or Y2K either. Features very likable characters and some lovely messaging about life.

Loved this book! I couldn’t put this down. Kelly does a great job of capturing the voice of a 12 year old. Although this novel is science-fiction, the authenticity shines. The writing itself shines as it’s well-paced.
