Entrada Kelly does what she does best with creating memorable experiences for the reader. this is an enjoyable, uplifting reading experience. The elements of sci-fi will be enough to sate fans of the genre while remaining approachable for all audiences. A lovable cast buoys this time travel drama by one of the most reliable authors in children's literature. Won't work for readers who want a fast paced story. It for the more serious reader.

I can see why this won the Newberry medal! It was fun reliving a bit of 1999 and the worry that we had about Y2K, but the way the characters interact and weave together is beautiful! I loved the notes from the future and how they were written propelled the story forward. Great book!

National Book Award YA Finalist Review: so delighted that this book made the finals. The prose strong and each character felt beautifully crafted. There was cultural commentary woven in but without seeming contrived or losing its whimsy.

Who would have thought a Y2K book could be so fascinating??? I love everything by Erin Entrada Kelly and this was no exception. No wonder it won the Newbery!
Look. I know this won the Newberry. But I kind of hated this. I really don't know any middle schooler who would be interested in this book. I'll reassess when I've let a few kids read it but for now, I am unconvinced.
