Nostalgic sci-fi about regular kids who meet a time traveling teen in 1999. I like how it tackles issues of anxiety and trust, and the various time travel theories (given names pulled from sci-fi authors and television).
Moderate: Bullying, Death, Grief
Minor: Panic attacks/disorders, Racism, Self harm, Suicidal thoughts
medium-paced
This is a great middle grade time travel story, reminiscent of one of my favorites: When You Reach Me. It's 1999 and twelve-year-old Michael is anxious about Y2K and has been secretly stockpiling supplies. He discovers a strange teenage boy named Ridge and finds out that he is from 100 years in the future. Ridge has time traveled without permission and needs help getting home. This book would appeal to fans of both sci-fi and realistic fiction. Recommended for grades 5+.

I love how Kelly can create both dear and flawed characters to adore. This is an excellent book with an excellent message without being a ‘message” book.
