Ernaux’s attention to detail was described as “clinical” by the Nobel Committee. Personally I find a lot of tenderness in the way she depicts  small details in the lives of ordinary people.

This was one of her earlier works—she hadn’t yet entirely refined her beautifully transparent style, but for me it was still a great read.

It's Elena Ferrante before Elena Ferrante. A little slow and ponderous but ultimately a really devastatingly real look at growing up as a girl/woman.
