The only interesting

What an interesting foray into the world of witches and New Orleans! Nic is a powerful witch and Beau is hiding something from him and his family. Nic wants to hold onto his grudges with Beau but he just can’t. Beau doesn’t want anyone to know what happened to him but Nic has a way of coaxing him into sharing pieces of himself. To complicate their developing relationship, an evil is trying to harm Beau.

I enjoyed the paranormal aspects of this and the bits and pieces of New Orleans. I also liked the byplay between Nic and Beau as it was hot and spicy. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

WOW!!!! This story seems to have everything in just the right dose that creates a story and world that you are drawn into and leaves you wanting more. Nic returns to New Orleans after being told he is a suspect in the murder of Abel, his ex-lover's grandfather. As these two men come face to face again, questions are raised of what Nic thought happened all those years ago was right or not.

There is this blend in this book that has you so wrapped up in everything that you find yourself giving a side eye to New Orleans and all that happens in that city. I cannot wait for more from this series!

If you like magic, witches, voodoo and warlocks then this is a book for you. It’s the start of a new series of the talented Shannon West.
This is a brilliant fast paced book about second chances with two families locked in a feud set in New Orleans, I enjoyed the push and pull between Beau and Nic. The chemistry between the pair is hot and demonstrated throughout the whole book, secondary characters are well depicted leaving openings for follow on books. The mystery of who is behind the threats and murder was quite gripping throughout, I had a idea of who it could be, changing my mind several times and the who was revealed about 75% into the book.
I can’t wait for more from this series.

Started skimming at 22%
Gave up at 33%.
Shame I was really looking forward to this. It sounded interesting.
Also blurb doesn't mention this is a sub/dom relationship. It wouldn't have bothered me if everything had been good but I know BDSM is a no for some readers and consequently that should have been alluded to in the blurb.

Trying not to feel bad about rating this one star. Paragraphs upon paragraphs of exposition and background info were thrown into my face with no care for how they meshed with the rest of the story. Instead of leaving some mystery in the characters' pasts or slowly revealing their experiences, everything was explained to me by each character. I'm not really into BDSM stuff, so that was not my favorite, but the way the novel told me things instead of showed me had more of an effect on my enjoyment than some tossing around and bondage. I also thought that Nic was kind of a dick. I didn't like him more as the book progressed. The plot left me wanting, both the progression of it and the fact that I could easily guess the culprit. The plot had potential and the different types of magic are interesting, along with the New Orleans setting, but these elements weren't used to their full potential.

Witches!

There’s only the barest amount of world building but it was enough for me to understand what was going on. I really liked the second chance romance between Nic and Beau. There was definitely a creep factor and the book is a little dark but I enjoyed it.
