This wasn’t a bad book by any means, but I don’t know who in marvel’s collected edition decided this needed an omnibus.

I don’t know if it’s just that Hickman had such a solid voice for these characters and reading this run (a more fun and simple take on these characters compared to Hickman) was a mistake, but the characters in this run are two dimensional and don’t really have any defined character arcs except maybe Ant-Man. Everyone else is pretty static throughout the run.

The plots are pretty decent even though I found the Fantastic Four plot a bit hard to follow at times, but I thought it was mostly a fun title. The art on Fantastic Four by Mark Bagley is really great, I love Bagley. That’s the biggest plus of this book, the fact that we have Bagley and Allred on art duties. Both are AMAZING artists. I’d give the Fantastic Four portion of this book a 6/10, it’s pretty average.

Fraction definitely put more effort into the FF title, you can tell he loves the characters he uses in the Future Foundation. I like the way he writes the kids in the FF and the members of the replacement Fantastic Four. The plots in this book range from decent to good with a few pretty good standout issues. I think the pacing of the title and some of the actions of the characters were a bit questionable at times. I feel like Fraction wanted to do more than 16 issues of this book and the pacing likely would’ve benefitted from that. I’d give FF a 7/10.

The book as a whole was a pretty fun read, but it’s non-essential Fantastic Four reading. I’d only check this out if you wanted to read more Fantastic Four but already read Waid, Lee/Kirby and Hickman or if you’re a huge fan of any of the creators that worked on this book.
