fine, nothing crazy. rey's was my favorite of the bunch, but i liked finn's and poe's too.
This is going to function as a dual review for both the Heroes and [b:Star Wars: Age of Resistance - Villains|44777456|Star Wars Age of Resistance - Villains|Tom Taylor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1554304297l/44777456._SY75_.jpg|69417547] books, because I mainlined all the issues in one fell swoop and not entirely in order. Each character-centric issue is absolutely tiny: it’s more like a bite-sized vignette, a brief glimpse of a moment that characterises them.
The villains set was more interesting to me because of the insight it gave us to Snoke and Kylo Ren, mostly because I am very interested in those mysterious arcs and where in the world they’re going in the movies, and so it’s interesting to see that during his training, Kylo was unable to kill the Force manifestations of his parents. Also, Hux and Kylo’s dynamic continues to crack me up for how much they bicker and squabble!!
In contrast, the heroes’ issues were mostly just… more of the same: Finn’s early compassion, Rey’s scrappiness and hope, Poe’s first glimpses of the Resistance. None of it is particularly surprising or unexpected, but it is nice just getting to see more of these characters.

I felt let down by this volume. I haven't read the Republic or Rebellion "Age of" comics, but I had anticipated for the Sequel Trilogy characters, these comics provided an opportunity to really dig in, since there's comparatively so little known about them. Alas, most of these vignettes verge on silly, and only provide some tiny glimpses of new depth to the characters. The story about Paige and Rose may have been my favorite, despite it retreading the background info we learned in "Cobalt Squadron," and I also enjoyed Holdo's part in the Special. But again, overall, these stories are fun enough, but feel like empty calories.
Finn: 8 out of 10
Special: 9 out of 10
Poe Dameron: 9 out of 10
Rose Tico: 8 out of 10
Rey: 8 out of 10
Average: 8.4
Easily the best of the Heroes collections between Age of Resistance/Rebellion/Republic.

STAR WARS: AGE OF RESISTANCE - ROSE TICO 1, 4 stars, nice background on Rose and Paige
STAR WARS: AGE OF RESISTANCE - POE DAMERON 1, 4 stars, Poe's first brush with Resistance, not much story but maybe best of set
STAR WARS: AGE OF RESISTANCE - REY 1, 4 stars, brief story about Rey heading out to find Luke, it was not an uneventful trip as movie led us to believe
STAR WARS: AGE OF RESISTANCE SPECIAL 1, 3.5 stars.... Maz story bad, BB8 story and Haldo stories are good

While I've enjoyed Marvel's Star Wars books there are so many and its starting to seem superfluous. None of the stories told here added much to the mythos. The General Hux story stood out as the best. The art was fine throughout. Overall, an okay read that just doesn't contribute too much.
