i know i read this as a teen, but i couldn’t remember a damn thing. turns out Lackey had a lot of the same problems in her early books as in the awful new herald spy books. i think she just had better ideas and a better editor. but this was still super enjoyable.

Ahh! Childhood memories. Gotta love the Heralds of Valdemar.

Just re-read this for the umpteenth time. This time on audio and found that it holds up pretty dang well! The narrator tended to use accents to differentiate between characters which was nice because it was easy to tell them apart. However, it was a little jarring that Talia had a very heavy Scottish accent! (lols) I decided to pick this up as I was contemplating whether or not I could get through Midnight Sun when it comes out. I find anymore that Twilight just makes my teeth itch. However, Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books seem to hold up much better! Do your ya readers a favor and point them to this classic ya fantasy instead!
