Rereading these as an adult has been a truly wild experience. I still love the story as much as ever, but I've realized we were literally reading JK Rowling learn how to write books. The first one was HORRIBLY written. By book 5, she had the flow of sentences down, but didn't know when to stop. The unnecessary exposition in this book was exhausting to wade through, especially given the impact on the story & length of the book. Looking forward to Half Blood Prince when we start bringing that page count back down.
