Enjoyed, but historical romance westerns aren’t going to be my new favorite. Lacked banter.

This writing style is just not for me. It's women's fiction, filled with endless mundane details and a huge cast of characters that do nothing to advance the story. The plot is very thin and the only interesting bits are the crumbs of historical information scattered through. I found both main characters boring despite their backgrounds and I didn't find any chemistry between them.

Audiobook. 4 stars.
My first Beverly Jenkins book!
Loved that this touched on prejudices of women, African Americans, and native Americans. The setting was beautiful, made me want to visit Wyoming. Great spice!

Spring's fierce independence as a Black woman rancher makes her an excellent character, and Garrett from Washington DC has never been struck by a woman the way he is by Spring. Less plot than I like in Jenkins writing sometimes, but she knows how to keep you on your toes until the end! I love how Jenkins gives us such good research about life in the West for Black and Indigenous people, and Wild Rain is no exception to the rich historical fabric of US History.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️.5

Reading Order: Did I read this series out of order? Yes, yes I did. Could you? Yes, as they are all standalones. Though the first and third are connected, and it may be valuable to read the first before the third. You don't have to, and since the third is my favorite, I'd still say to start there.

General Thoughts I adore Beverly Jenkins. She crafts such compelling characters and such swoon-worthy men. I love how she blends unknown historical facts (at least probably to most) and effortlessly weaves them into her stories. I love when I don't feel like I'm getting a history lecture, even when I definitely am. I adored both Spring and Garrett. This book felt different in many ways from other Beverly Jenkins novels I've read, but it was also familiar at the same time.

I can't wait to read more by her as she is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Spice Meter: ❤️‍🔥.5 Spicy but not the most graphic. It's there though.

Romantic Tropes

Love me a man who is smitten. Dual POV. Spring is an amazing lead too. She was ahead of her time. He falls first and is just fine with that. Of course there was a bit of outside drama and danger as well.
