Funny and interesting premise but a little bit too much fanservice for my taste, especially for something rated T rather than OT
I adore this anime, and so decided to give the manga a try. This first volume is very similar to the anime; however, it lacks some of the flash that the amazing animation brings to the table.
That said, the story is clever and fun, and I really enjoy the cast of characters. There is something both absurd and relatable about a part-time employee in a low wage job struggling to move up, with delusions of grandeur (though in this case he has some reasons to have earned this ego).
I think what works particularly well is the multiple conflict points of the series. Characters from the fantasy realm all are trying to learn about earth and the real world, which causes some amazing interactions, this also gives them a bond with each other, even while they might be enemies. Then there are people who actively are enemies of each other. It just works really well.
Overall a strong start and one I am excited to keep reading.

After a fierce battle with an army of holy knights, the brutal and terrifying demon lord is forced to flee to another realm! Unfortunately, when he and one of his top general’s cross over into this realm, they lose all their powers and their original demonic forms. Now, they’re just humans.
Worse, they’re humans who have to pay rent.
This means that the once mighty demon lord is now flipping burgers part-time! Scrounging together pennies and balancing finances — all that fun stuff.
When he and his trusted aid discover that they weren’t the only ones to cross over into this realm, will they be able to find some middle ground with the now human but still very determined hero?
After all, the demon lord is SO close to getting a promotion! He’d hate to have to start over again…
So, this manga is hysterical. The premise is utterly wild but really interesting too? So good. So funny. It’s the perfect mindless story to get lost in. Absolutely one ridiculous situation after another. And, the dialogue is clever, sarcastic, and fun.

I haven't read the light novel, but I enjoyed this first volume. Maou clearly has evil plans, but based on the incident at the restaurant I'm doubting just how evil he is/ wondering if there is more to his character. I liked the Maou and Alciel duo, and Emilia has an interesting history. Overall a fun read.
