I have finished reading 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙒𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 by 𝙉.𝙆.𝙅𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣. It's got a really interesting premise; Cities have souls. New York City comes under attack, and six people come together to save the city. 𝙉.𝙆.𝙅𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣 doesn't waste any time on explanations, she gets right on telling the story with no real background information, assuming her readers will keep up. There is immediate exciting action. The characters are interesting and 𝘧𝘶𝘯 as the living embodiment of the 5 boroughs, and the sixth as the whole of New York. An enjoyable, exciting book, that would actually make a pretty cool movie! (Casting Tilda Swinton as the Woman in White, and Dr. White).

What a fun Idea. Jemisin does an amazing job weaving 6 main characters together while making the story flow. Also each character is themselves and the embodiment of a burrow of New York but it's written so well that it doesn't get jumbled or confusing. There are a lot of heavy topics in this book like racism and gentrification of a city. It was hard at times for me to tell who the bad guys are and I can't wait to read the next book.
