This is EXTREMELY graphic. It’s twisty and turny but the most graphic book I have ever red.

Really good writing style but incredibly dark and graphic. The story draws you in and each new deal leaves you incredulous. Completely unpredictable, horrifying, heartbreaking with heartwarming moments. Glad the family was able to reunite after getting closure.

I feel like I absolutely need to start this review off by giving a larger-than-life, HUGE TRIGGER WARNING for this book. I have never felt so haunted by a character’s actions. That being said, Karin Slaughter knows how to write a violent psychopath. She also pays a lot of attention to detail, which I can appreciate.
I also appreciate the way she kept the realism with Claire after she finds out what he’s done — the anger, the shock, but also the grieving of who she thought was her husband, and the wishing that it was all just a nightmare in her head.
Only thing I didn’t enjoy was that I didn’t feel like I could relate to any of the characters; it felt like they were either too vapid for my taste or just aren’t relatable to me, but that’s ok!

This was a very different book for me based on what I've been reading. It was a little hard to keep straight the different POV's at the beginning, but that eventually gets a little easier. It was full of major suspense and it kept me turning the page. Do pay attention to any trigger warnings (r***, murder, torture, etc.) because there is a good amount of this book that actively describes what is basically torture porn. If you really like Criminal Minds and are into that sorta stuff this would definitely be up your alley!

Now it's time for me to go back to my happy romance for a bit lol

One of the most challenging books I have ever read. Be sure to read the trigger/content warnings before going into it as the content is incredibly graphic. Karin Slaughter is definitely one of my favorite writers and her ability to pull together this story ... It was heavy, descriptive to the point where you could visualize each aspect and feel like you were there in the moment - it was unnerving. I honestly don't know how I finished this one and will need to follow through with a lighter read.

I hated everything about this and how scary it was. It definitely felt like the author was going for pure shock factor most of the time. So this was scary and disturbing and worst of all utterly predictable. The setup was slightly confusing enough to where there is an air of mystery until you understand how the characters are associated. Then I - who am usually awful at predicting - could tell where the entire story went. But I thought there is so much of the book left, there’s no way I’m going to be right about this. But no I was they just took a long and loquacious road to get there.
