The thrilling conclusion of the adventures of Cadderly and his friends kept me at the edge of my seat the whole way throughout this book. I cannot remember when I last read a book this greedily.

The twists and turns of The Chaos Curse broke my heart, had me laughing, and everything in between.

Ten out of ten. Would read again.

(Argh—I cannot escape vampires! They turn up everywhere! I was not happy that they were the main fixture of this book.) Overall, a neatly suspenseful story (although *this parenthetical part is a spoiler* all the drama around Danica's supposed death is ruined because the author gives away in an earlier book that monks can achieve physical suspension. And Cadderly wasn't at all freaked out by finding the apparently dead body of his fiance).

I feel hugely sorry for Kierkan Rufo. I was hoping he'd get redeemed before the end, and instead he 's subjected to a gruesome demise. Also, a note about the ending: the drama and emotion is largely ruined if you've read Passage to Dawn in the Drizzt series, and there were several loose ends that didn't get patched up.

This was definitely my least favorite book in the quintet. I probably would have enjoyed it more were it not for the fact that the ending was ruined and if I wasn't so frustrated with the current craze of vampires in fiction.

I don't normally read fantasy, but I started reading this because it came up in a search for vampire stories. It's good. It's a little hard to follow in the beginning because there are so many characters, though I feel like the author fills in enough info about characters that aren't in the story anymore that I didn't feel completely lost. You don't need to read the other books in the series for this one to make sense. It's a good easy read if you're into vampires are looking for something different.

At times it felt as I'd the tension was drawn out too long. Never did it feel like things were underdressed. The Chaos Curse is a fitting culmination of the Clericle Quintet that ends off on a crescendo the likes of which Denier would be proud of.
Brought me to tears right at the end at the loss of Cadderly and Danica and any future they might share.

Felt like I struggled through the other 4 (Night Masks wasn't bad). This one I breezed through and could hardly put it down.

First completed novel of 2023! I am have been finishing up a few series I started in 2022, and this was the end of my reread of the Cleric Quintet.

I think the series had some ups and downs, but this was a pretty strong finish. At this point we have been with Cadderly and crew long enough that all the characters have really grown on me. Cadderly's journey is one that I think is particularly well done.

The last book in many ways felt like what would have been a typical conclusion, but I think that freed this final book to really focus on the climatic showdown between Cadderly and our villain. This is great because Cadderly is fully into his powers, he has dealt with any issues of questioning his faith or past, so the showdown is pretty epic.

At this point, all the things Salvatore brings to the table are featured here too. Solid action scenes, comedic dialogue and moments, some great character moments, and plotting that really isn't all that surprising. I can see why this wouldn't be for everyone, but at least in this series, i'd argue it works.

I don't think this is the strongest of the series, Sylvan Shadows takes that place, but it's probably a second for me. Just enough build up and development of our big bad to really make the final fight rewarding. My biggest complaint is that some of our supporting characters do horrendously little in this book, and Dianca is sadly regulated to damsel in distress....

Overall enjoyable. It isn't a work of art, but it is fun, and as the cover suggests has vampires, so yay!
