*2024 reread
Definitely has potential. I think the first time I read it I got swept up in the acclaim this series gets. This time reading it I really formed my own opinions. It is very interesting though and makes you think a lot.

This is a solid start overall but The Sound of Her Wings issue with Death was truly excellent. I’m more into Dringenberg’s art than Keith’s. Dream is such a different protagonist for comics and fantasy in that he’s generally not relatable or particularly likable. He’s humanized in the Death issue but he’s generally a self-centered god in this volume, concerned more with his objects of power than than justice or empathy. He’s even shown to be petty, leaving an ancient lover in hell, where he had cast her, because he still doesn’t forgive her. Strange stuff but so far very compelling.

Wow. It sure as hell started off a bit confusing, but when I got more and more closer to the end, and highly creeped out, things started to make sense. But in a good way, if there's even such a thing. It definitely made me think about it for sometime. Beautiful, yet haunting in it's depths and how it was written. Liked it well enough.

Interesting to read at the end that the last story in this collection, which was the one I most liked, was the first where the author felt he was finding his voice. Before that I wasn’t sure about continuing to volume 2 but I’ll give it a try sometime.
