The first 75% of this is really good, similar to Dune in pacing and style and it does a lot of good work reintroducing characters 12 years later. Then... there's an explosion. And suddenly things move very fast and start to get confusing. Not everything after that event is terrible, but the last 25% needed to be way longer. The ending is unsatisfying and just does not feel right at all tbh. It sucks bc I was super into Messiah for most of the book! I will be reading Children of Dune and hopefully that redeems the weirdness of this ending.

This book explores the human aspects of people who are put on a pedestal as heroes, and what happens on the backside of being seen as a savior.

Durkheim would love this
