hmmm hard to rate. was it as good as the first? no. is it still good? yes. the duncan reborn stuff was a bit… repetitive? i’m not sure how to say it. I liked the new religion/philosophies introduced a lot. alia and irulan are crazy i lowkey love them. i feel like this really did add to the themes of the first book in really interesting ways. left me a lot to chew on and the aesthetics (? vibes?) are still very fun to read.

If ‘Dune’ was his build-up and climax, ‘Dune: Messiah’ is Paul Atreides’ deconstruction.
Chronicling the inevitable downfall of an emperor who captured his throne by methods of vengeance, planted religion and abhorrent mixing of gene pools, this relatively short book manages to handle being a believable, captivating political plot to overthrow an oppressor. It’s immensely dense with deep themes and philosophical passages.
The concluding chapters to this story might be my favorite of any book I’ve read to date. The book did feel a bit too drawn out in certain parts, but my experience with it was overwhelmingly more positive than negative. There’s no shortage of thrilling, memorable moments. I feel like this story’ll stay in my mind for a while.
