I fell in love with Kynan and Joslyn in Wicked Force, part of Kristen Proby's Crossover Series. I wanted more. I needed more. Happy dance, I got a wonderful conclusion to their story. There is so much packed into this book that I got more than my money's worth--drama, suspense, second chance romance.

Code Name: Genesis
Jameson Force Security, Book 1
By: Sawyer Bennett
Narrated by: Shane East, Imogen Church

Jameson Force Security is going to be an amazing series. This is the first book and it not only gives us an amazing second chance romance, but introduces a cast of characters I can’t wait to get to know. Kynan has started this security agency and now is given a case to protect an actress from a stalker. Little does he know, it’s his ex-girlfriend. Joslyn needs help. The threats are becoming more prominent and the best in the business is needed to keep her safe. Kynan has a plan, but with this plan, old feelings are surfacing. Will this interfere with the investigation? Will the stalker get to her? So much is happening in this story. There is connection to the Wicked Horse Series, a great intro to the power of Kynan as he hires Bebe the hacker, and the second chance romance is sizzling. Suspense, heat, the unknown, the memories all are integrated into the twists and turns and had me hooked. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more of this series.

Sawyer Bennett must write her characters with her narrators in mind because the choice of Shane East and Imogen Church are Kynan and Joslyn. Each fits the persona so well, it is like they are telling their own story. I loved their performance.

Audiobook Review

I really liked this second-chance bodyguard romance, but the audiobook narration took my enjoyment to the next level.

The story strikes a good balance between danger and romance. Kynan is the head of a security firm and Joclyn is the famous singer/actress/ex-girlfriend he is hired to protect from a stalker. Things ended badly between them, but Kynan is an inexcusable tool towards her in the beginning of the book. He can be quick to judge, but once Kynan has time to cool off, he thinks logically. Joclyn was 19 when they first met, and even though it has been over a decade since they last saw each other, the attraction is still there. It’s obvious Joslyn is more mature now, and I was glad to see they’ve gotten better at communicating with each other.

I didn’t buy the necessity of a pretend engagement, but I liked them together as a couple so I didn’t mind any excuse for some PDA. I was sorry that Joclyn isn’t portrayed in her work environment, though, since I enjoy behind-the-scenes celebrity stories.

The narration is stellar. Shane East has a sexy as sin British accent, but he also pulls off an American accent quite well. Imogen Church is a true gem of a vocal performer. Her expressive portrayal of Joclyn is authentic and nuanced, and she also does a fantastic job voicing Kynan. I need to find more of her work ASAP! It can be challenging to find male narrators who can voice female roles—and vice versa—without sounding cartoonish, but East and Church make it sound easy.

Code Name: Genesis is the first book in the Jameson Force Security series, and I’m already intrigued just based on the team Kynan has assembled so far. I’m looking forward to reading more about them.

If I could have started this book at Chapter 3, my rating would have been much higher. The way Kynan behaved was so unhero like, it was ridiculous. Even acknowledging his affinity for kink did not excuse the behavior. Long story short, Kynan did not start out on a positive note. He also had another negative moment before he could be considered close to a hero.

Then, of course, Joslyn had her moments of not being very bright. One being so ridiculous it caused me to wonder if I was missing something. Why would you not use the resources available to you?

The stalker situation was interesting, but it left me with lingering questions. Overall, this was a decent book. I had the book, but listened to the audiobook. Shane East was one of the narrators, so that alone made the book better for me. I had never heard Sawyer Church narrate before, but I thought she did a good job.

I will move on to book 2, Code Name: Sentinel. Barrett's back story seemed pretty interesting.

An entertaining romantic suspense novel with some great chemistry, and a whole lot of alpha hero goodness. I also enjoyed the fact that, in many instances, the heroine saves herself in this one. So it bucks some of the tropes of this genre and makes for a more balanced and egalitarian coupling.
