There’s really no way to describe the overall package that this book actually is. It’s a family drama, a treatise on the dangers of sexism, but crucially, a paean to hope. I’d give the trigger warnings a good read before you press on, but don’t miss out on this incredible, hopeful story.

I really liked this book. My grandmother recommended it to me and got it for me, and I'm very glad she did! The characters and story were all very memorable, and I especially loved the addition of Six-Thirty as a secondary character - that was very unique and heartwarming. As a woman pursuing a career in science, this book was also very eye-opening to the sexism and other challenges that women in science faced relatively recently, and reminded me to appreciate the people who came before me. I felt so many emotions while reading Lessons in Chemistry and found myself really rooting for the main characters all the way through. I'm not sure how else to describe this book, other than by saying I'd recommend it to just about anyone out there, but particularly people interested in STEM.

This book was pretty good. Not my favorite but I can see why it got so much buzz. The talking dog parts were too much for me.

The topics presented can be difficult to read at times. others, I found myself laughing out loud as I read. A lot is extremely exaggerated and at times took away from the story, but I loved the dogs perspective and protective nature, Mads character, and the way each character managed to get their name. Overall I enjoyed the story and couldn't put the book down.

I won’t lie, this book had a slow start and the first 100 pages I was wondering if this would be a disappointment. I’m glad to say that I really got into it after that. There were so many times I laughed out loud as well as times I nearly cried. I love reading about women empowering women and stories like this need to be told. Because even though this is set in the 60’s, people today still need to hear how fierce and capable women are.
