Fern speaks with a candor that you don't often get these days, especially, as she mentions, with the topics at hand in this book. Every inch of this book is pure honesty and raw emotion but is handled with the perfect amount of care. I think she very much accomplishes the mission she sets out to take on - tell her story in the hope that you will be a little kinder to the next person similar to her and honestly, what more could you want. I enjoyed this book so much, and, as the partner of an autistic person, thank you for writing this, Fern.

I wouldn’t  usually rate a memoir. However, this was hands down a 5 star and it would be wrong not to rate it. Honest, informative and brave. I genuinely believe everyone should read this book and open their eyes to the barriers autistic people face. It is true that anxiety and depression are so widely discussed and embraced. Yet autism is not. I adored Fern on taskmaster and it makes me so happy that this was the most autistic-friendly job she’s had and she could just be herself. I loved her as herself. Highly highly recommend!

Fern writes from her personal perspective about her life as an autistic woman.  No punches are pulled and she graphically describes a lot of harrowing experiences, including domestic violence and sexual assault. She also talks about her body dysmorphia and associated issues. I think this often leads into negative descriptions of ‘fat’ as a pejorative term.  She unpacks meltdowns in a way I haven’t read before. As an autistic woman, I recognise that this is difficult to do.

An honest and at times heartbreaking, frustrating and funny memoir from a brilliant comedian.

Brady talks candidly about her experience as an autistic woman living in a world where it can be hard to be both of those things.

Her way of writing is quick, thoughtful and witty whilst also getting straight to the point.

I’m a huge fan of Fern’s comedy, and also loved her as a contestant on Taskmaster recently. It was interesting and also extremely frustrating to read of the lack of allowance for her needs in entertainment but so satisfying to know that Taskmaster was a positive experience. Hopefully other shows and people in entertainment can learn from it.

I’d highly recommend this to anyone, and would just take note of the content warnings
