Great mystery novel by a late Swedish writer. The story started off rather slow, especially considering it was such a long book. It picked up somewhere in the middle (around the July chapters), and when I say picked up I mean it was a complete page-turner. Prior to July I just had to force myself to keep going - rather daunting when you still have hundreds of pages left.

After the very dramatic turn of events in the middle of the story and the solving of the initial mystery, the book lost its focus again, concentrating on some minor sub-plot that was built up at the beginning of the book. By this time, I was just ready for it to be over.

In general, this was an interesting book to read. Sort of a Swedish version of a Dan Brown book with less consistent page-turning suspense. I can say that I would seek out the next book in the trilogy to read. It involves the same main two characters but there is a completely new mystery. I am hoping that after penning the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Larsson mastered his writing style to be more consistently fascinating and wild. We'll see about that.

Recommended to someone looking for a mystery, who doesn't get dismayed by foreign names of places and characters or by many many many pages. It's worth a read.

This suspense / mystery is an engaging and fast paced read. I had heard of this series for quite a while, and then stumbled upon the Swedish film of the story on Netflix. I watched it twice and loved it, albeit a dark and troubling story. I especially loved the casting of Noomi Rapace as hacker researcher Lisbeth Salander. So after watching the film twice, i wanted to read the book. I am glad i did, as it helped tie together many plot connections which i had missed in the subtitled film. I plan to continue the trilogy, reading the second book "The Girl Who Played with Fire" before i continue the second in the film trilogy. I recommend this book, it's a great read.

I liked watching it first and then reading it. How many times have you gotten ticked because a movie didn't live up to your idea of the book? Or they left out something you thought was important? And, for me, in this instance, the book is so much more full of stuff than the quite excellent movie, I didn't feel like I lost any thing by knowing how it turned out.
