this started out so strong for me but really fell off once they went to London. the stakes seemed to disappear after about halfway through and just led to Gracewood and Viola having the same conversation over and over, mixed with a random pointless kidnapping plot. i loved the idea here but think it would have been executed better if the book was slower paced or Viola’s identity was revealed to Gracewood further into the book.

Thoroughly enjoyable, lovely all the way through. It was hard, in the second half, because the interactions in the first half were so fun to read, and that was lost after everyone went to London. But, the London parts were still completely enjoyable. Sometimes a character would get caught up and think or talk to much about something that only needed to be one line, or no lines, but it’s okay because genuinely it was a lovely read.

not sure this was fully my thing, but I am an ally and loved the banter.

also, ate up that twelfth night quote and the main character being named viola and all the shipwreck metaphors.

Everything about this was utterly phenomenal. It was the most romantic book I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. It was grand, poetic, sweep-you-off-your-feet magnetic. I felt a deep ache with each page I turned, longing to find a love as vast and epic. It was essentially a queer Jane Austen novel and I Ate. It. Up. I highly highly recommend to all my other hopeless romantics who crave grand-sweeping declarations of love, deep longing stares, and the most tantalizing soft touches. Swooning, and possibly crying

I've been saying that I wanted an MMC who had given up on life until the FMC came along, and A Lady for a Duke is exactly that.

It's well written, and while I liked the characters, I didn't feel the romance between them. I'm not saying that I didn't think Viola and Justin were in love with each, because they clearly are. As a reader, I want to be an active participant in watching the characters fall for each other, but here I felt more like an observer because Justin and Viola basically already loved each other.

The pacing felt a little off as well, like the plot with Miss Avon and Amberglass felt a little tacked on at the end. But, at least there wasn't a 3rd act break up.

First, and probably last, book I'll read by this author.
