I was a bit disappointed with this book. There didn't seem to be much depth to the characters. It felt like something was missing!

I was really intrigued at first; and liked the idea of the time period and a handsome soldier coming in to disrupt a girls school. Thought great parts of a pyschological thriller- But, like most other readers, i felt some of the scenes were so detailed and repetitive; that I ended up skimming through much of it.
Probably closer to 2.5-3.0 stars; but does reveal some interesting stories about the characters.

Can't wait to see the 2017 movie of this! I think seeing the girls visually would help me keep track of which girl is which!

that was certainly a wild ride and I enjoyed it very much! A little slow in the beginning but it picks up and it's very interesting to see how all the secrets and real personalities emerged over the course of the book. Marie was my fave though.

It starts off great and things get really interesting towards the middle of the book but the ending is very unsatisfying - Cullinan ratchets the drama to the highest peak and then pulls back completely. It works as an unconventional approach but I didn't love it.

Disclaimer: I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a surprising read, unique in a way. I usually am not one for dual points of view so I wasn't too sure how I would cope with multiple characters. But I found Cullinan was great at creating different voices.
I found it especially good how different characters have different takes on one event.
I did feel it was dragging on a little bit towards the end but I believe it is one of these books that will stay with me. And the end was definitely worth a bit of a drag!

Well, this book happened.
I was expecting something more exciting, with more suspense and some gratifying violence toward the manipulative Yankee soldier. Sadly, it was all sort of anticlimactic.
