Definitely an outlandish premise that I had trouble suspending disbelief for lol but Caleb and Layla may be the most relatable couple in Lovelight so far. An enjoyable ride for sure!

April was apparently the month for relationship contracts for me, reading AND listening to books with that trope. Watching two fools fall so hard for each other in the "safety" of an agreement is always an adventure. Layla is so unsure of her own judgement and desirability street such a long string of bad relationships and a lack of support from anyone in her family. Caleb wears his heart on his sleeve and falls hard every time, leaving him a broken mess when things fall apart after a few dates.

I loved how hard Caleb tried for every date, and laughed along with Layla every time their dates went horribly awry for them. I commend Caleb for even attempting the zombie escape room. That's an absolute no go from me! Knowing how much thought and effort went into each outing was touchingly romantic.

And how he stepped to and saved the day for the bakehouse feature day when everything went horrifically wrong was just perfect. I ached for Layla in her despair and was whooping for joy as Caleb ran around town pulling it all together for her.

I'm excited for one last story in Inglewilde later this summer, but I'm sad to see these favorites end soon too

Do you like cinnamon rolls in the streets but bossy in the sheets? If so, l'd like to introduce you to Caleb Alvarez. This was my first read in the Lovelight series and boy did this not disappoint. These two were so dang cute, it drove me crazy.
Both Layla and Caleb have not had the best track record with dating so they come up with a simple proposition: date for one month, no strings attached. Layla will rate Caleb's dating game while Caleb shows Layla how a man should treat her. But what happens when things start to heat up and the month comes closer to an end?

Although this is book three in the series, I would say it could be read as a standalone. However, you will encounter spoilers from the first two books. I will DEFINITELY be going back to read the first two because I need more of this series!

Quotes:
"Why are you giving these guys your time? Why are you settling for crumbs when you deserve the whole damn cake?"

"You're bossier than you let on." His laugh is a dark, wicked thing-warm air against my neck as he leans over me. "You have no idea."

"I think I've been falling in love with you for a while, Layla. One butter croissant at a time."

Caleb and Layla are so wholesome I could cry. The patience he has for her? The healthy communication? Her journey to self love? We just love to see it. Caleb is a damn dream. SWOON.

Admittedly I may just be kinda sick of this genre at this point but I can't get over how profoundly stupid "the power went out for a few hours overnight and all the baked goods (including scones???) in the closed fridge immediately went bad" is as a plot point. Hate that that's my whole takeaway from this book but there you go.
