The characters got polished up quite a bit; they gained a lot of depth! I must say I enjoyed this book equally as much as the first. If not more.

Delilah "There is no such things as too many knives" Bard especially grew a lot. And I enjoyed the fact that 'romance' was not at all central in this book. It was subtle, and didn't get in the way of the plot. It just had a very mature feeling to it. That makes this series especially enjoyable.

Kell himself, turned out to have far more darker thoughts than before, which made him seem very human to me. Both he and Rhy had very natural responses to their situation. And I must say, I noticed Kell cutting his hand for blood magic a lot less than in book 1.
But that ending. That ending.

SpoilerI think most of the people would expect Holland to come back. He never really had a 'dead' feeling to him. And he's far too usable for plot purposes to get rid of him this early. But it's sad that he didn't get a lot of page-time.

Overall, to me, this was a book about Delilah. More specific, for her magic to grow and get used in order to prepare for the events in book 3. Still looking forward to when it comes out, though!

This book is so good! I personally like this one slightly better than the first one but they're both such good reads (the third one is already on the way to my house). I love the way she writes fantasy, something about it tickles my brain. Without saying too much, the element games were fun and it was cool to see the extent of everyone's powers and the fights kept me on edge, It was so exciting. My favorite characters are Rhy and Alucard. I also love Tieren because he minds his damn business, these people are stressing him out chile.

Ok I wasn't going to force myself to read the book, lol. I mean it was aight, I just didn't care. Now that VE Schwab has released videos on the whole series, I will watch them before the second part comes out. I love VE Schwab but I feel like her early writing is very noticeable but she has definitely improved. So yeah, still love you VE Schwab.
