There are very few books I've read that have had me laughing out loud. I've always been a fan of Rick's work and his memoir is just as phenomenal as his tv performances. Written and published during COVID-19, brief nods to that fact only add to the hilarity as it still connects with current events (pgs 281-282!). As the last chapter was titled "To Be Continued" I certainly look forward to part 2!

Rick Mercer is one of the few remaining journalists who can give the news impartially…and he’s not even a journalist per se…and it’s all while entertaining you and making you laugh. He’s as Canadian as you can get. I adored this memoir. An easy five stars.

What a wonderful, funny look into the life of one of a great Canadian comic. Mercer is hilarious, sprinkling tales about his shenanigans with a real, honest look at what it's like in Canadian showbusiness. My favorite parts were the stories about Bosnia and Afghanistan. Only 4 stars cause I wish it had been longer and covered the 15 years of Rick Mercer Report.
I love Rick Mercer. I only watched him here and there on TV, but I remember a lot of the content he talks about, both with his shows and the events of the time. I love his irreverence, his genius comic wit, and his knowledge about all things political.
When I think of what he accomplished with his trips to visit troops overseas and his petition to change Stockwell Day’s name, I’m reminded of someone who had power, and used it for good instead of evil.
That’s what seems to be missing in our times, after the world weariness of COVID, the war in Ukraine, and at the moment of this review, drastic changes in the cost of living in Canada and all over the world.
To paraphrase a Christmas carol, “We need a little Mercer, right this very minute”.

An uplifting memoir from a Canadian comedy legend. Merger’s storytelling is phenomenal and vivid and reading this book feels like watching an episode of 22 Minutes. Quick, witty, and at times tender, this is a great feel-good read.
A great read about Mercer's start in show business, and his rise to where he shone, notably This hour has 22 minutes, Talking to Americans, and Rick Mercer's Report. Not only can the man do television, he can write in an engaging and humorous manner. My favourite? (In talking about the CBC crew who were shooting the Christmas in Kabul special) “The closest they had ever been to a war zone was the annual broadcast of the Maritime Fiddling Championship.” Snort.
