3.75
This volume is essentially an action thriller mostly where pirates have taken over the ship of our heroes who are kind of fugitives themselves right now. It’s the character dynamics, worldbuilding mythology and Christian Ward’s art that really sell this story. Wilson’s writing is quite good but it can get a bit over expository at points in this volume. Nonetheless, the characterization and worldbuilding is still really good. I’m giving this book 3.75 because it’s quite well done but it also all feels like an extended middle of the story, waiting for payoff. A lot of this volume also is just on a ship. It might get dull to some because of that.
Moderate: Blood, Misogyny, Sexism, Violence, Xenophobia, Religious bigotry, Body horror, Confinement, Sexual content, and War
The warnings are all fairly moderate, the crew that invades the protagonists obviously aren’t the best to them. There is some slight sapphic intimacy for 2 pages. Otherwise all the storytelling is all of them doing what they can to get away from these pirates while there’s a good amount of further worldbuilding and mythology going on. The art from Christian Ward is fantastic.
