Slow start but really picked up 1/3 the way through the book. The characters were all likable and the plot moved at a nice pace. Not like Cameron's other books I have read. The dogs were there but not the center of the story.

A tale of a family going through a particularly tough holiday season, told from multiple character perspectives (including the canine variety)! This story begins just before Thanksgiving and takes the audience through the holidays.

I struggled while listening to the audiobook version. There was no audible distinction between the thoughts and perspectives of the many characters in this story. For example, in one sentence you may experience the daughter’s teenage angst and immediately following that, in the next sentence the father character is thinking about his upcoming meeting with his boss. I felt I had to continually catch up to the story’s content due to the frequent and abrupt character shifts.

A great, uplifting holiday story.  Although it's not really about the new puppy, it's more about the family.

I had low expectations going into this book. I figured I’d get more of a Hallmark Christmas movie than a Pulitzer Prize winner. Yet, this book was still disappointing.
This book is a good argument for more diversity in publishing. The story is ostensibly about a family and their challenges with various relationships; however, the only characters with any depth are the two older, white, male characters. The named female characters are barely more developed than the setting. (There’s literally a bit where the grandfather can’t remember the names of three women he meets at a park.) This lack of character development makes the whole ending feel unearned.
Also, the author also doesn’t write young people well at all. The texting exchanges read like caricatures, and even the names given to some early teenage characters come across as being thought up by an old man annoyed that people name their kids anything other than Mary or Catherine anymore.
Lastly, for a book called A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, dogs really don’t figure into the story much at all. Similarly to the women in the story, the dogs are more like furniture than characters.

I cannot tolerate parents who don’t parent.  They have twins that no one (including the parents and grandparent) can stand being around because there’s no training whatsoever happening.  They have a teenager that is disrespectful and rude and they again just allow her to be.  Maybe it gets better later on in the book, but I can’t tolerate it any longer.  Much better books on my TBR.

This was a cute book. I really enjoyed it even though it was sad in some parts of it. I would definitely recommend this book!
