An overdue review because I'm garbage.

THANK YOU to Natalia for allowing me an early read of this delightful little book. It opens up with Daisy's world being turned on its head as her entire family is murdered right in front of her. Through her grief, she decides to go after the man who destroyed her life. Sounds morbid, but the tone is a bit lighter than you'd think.

I think the voice here is what's so impressive. Characters have the Western twang that you'd expect, but it's not bludgeoned into the story so much that you're distracted by it. The setting is clear and fully realized without us being bogged down by it. Daisy is a fun, sympathetic character and you're left with wanting more. Thus is probably what Natalia's going to hear over and over again, which she's already addressed so I won't dwell on it: the shortness of the book is both what makes it so accessible but also what you finish the book being very aware of. Does that make sense? It's a good thing: we want more!

Excited for Whiskey City. Well done Natalia. :)

I love movies about the Old West so when I had first heard about this book, needless to say, I was beyond excited about it. I enjoyed the characters and learning about some of their backstories but I felt that the story itself could’ve been fleshed more. Regardless of that, I will be reading the second one when it comes out and I’m looking forward to it!

Usually, it takes me around 1/4 of a book before I start to care much about what's happening to the characters. But surprisingly early on in Pistol Daisy, my heart was shattered for her when she loses her family to the mysterious Hopkins gang.

Leigh’s excellent writing makes you mourn along with Daisy. But Daisy is a force to be reckoned with, and instead of giving in to her grief, she joins a group of strangers hunting down Hopkins, and swears her revenge on the man who murdered her family.

Daisy is a tough character, and her ambitious need for revenge and answers drive the story along. But it's also her worries, fear, and growing care for her companions that make you really root for her. Mix that with the other rough-around-the-edges characters she teams up with, such as Steinburn and Henry (my two personal favorites), and you have a whole cast of intriguing outlaws that make the story come alive.

It’s a quick read, with plenty of action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. When I got to the end, I was already hungry for the next installment of Daisy’s story.

4.5/5 An incredibly well written story with believable dialogue, action, and emotion. I never read this genre and find myself enjoying every word and being fully immersed in the world. I'm rooting for Daisy Allen!
