A fun thriller/mystery set in far north Iceland. I love the author's style and stayed engaged at a fast pace the whole book. Murder set in a bleak landscape with lovely descriptions of the claustrophobic nature of endless snow. Can't wait to read another from Jonasson.

I was excited to be introduced to a new character, rookie policeman Ari Thór Arason. The cast of characters were pretty large and varied, in terms of likability. Some of them rivaled Agatha Christie's creations. Listening to this book on audio, I did sometimes have trouble recalling some of the characters because there were too many for me to keep them straight.

Lile most of Jónasson's creations, there was a building sense of menace that built into a hair raising climax. The combination of a break in to Ari's isolated home, a killer or killers on the loose, snowstorms, and perpetual darkness, all combined into a perfect storm that make a great Jónasson thriller.

I enjoyed the story but one of my icks is a story that contains an affair and that brought my enjoyment level down a bit.

Really 3.5 stars.

I liked it but I did find it a little slow at times. I'm new to Nordic Noir and I know the pace is usually slow but something about this one felt hard to get through. It wrapped up wonderfully though and I'll absolutely continue on with the series.
