I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me started out captivating and hooked me right away!  It gave Black Swan, Tiny Pretty Things (Netflix series) and Flesh and Bone (STARZ series) vibes.  The story follows Laure Mesney, a black girl, attending an elite school for ballet in Paris, France.  Laure is ostracized from her peers but has hopes and dreams of becoming an etoile. (principal dancer in a ballet company) Josephine (the etoile) befriends her one night and introduces her to a river of blood that gives her powers.  At this point, the story started to lose its momentum.  Laure danced, she went to the river, and used her powers.  From then on it was The Groundhog Day effect.  She also had no relationship with her parents and we never find out why.  I never understood why she considered Coralie her best friend because she was awful to her throughout the entire novel.  I did eventually finish I Feed Her to the Beast but it was definitely a struggle due to the pacing of the book, the constant repetitiveness and several plot holes.

The main character is 17 in an industry where being perfect will never be enough because she's black and will never have the look or influence to be truly loved or appreciated by her peers so she takes matters into her own hands.
This book did not go in any direction that I was expecting and I loved every moment of it! I loved the gray morality that Laure has love that it just gets foggier as the story goes one but she DOES have lines she won't cross.

She's intoxicating and everything I expect of a power drunk 17yr old who hasn't been offered anything she's deserved.

I absolutely adored the ending! I love that we've gotten to this point where our favorite characters live cute monstrous lives and it's a happy ending even though it's like possession and soul stealing or something.

I’m giving it a 3 as a place holder while I think about how I feel. I went in with high expectations and the first half lived up to them, but it got slow in the middle and felt a bit like a slog to the climax. I did like the ending.

Delightfully dark, fiendish, and feral. Eagerly awaiting the next book.

Not a bad book, just not entirely for me. The narration from the audiobook was very well done.
