I reaaaallly enjoyed this one for so many reasons! Ballet for sure — as someone who grew up dancing, and always danced ballet, this really hit a nostalgic spot for me. I also loved the horror, and the social commentary that was enmeshed in the story. I thought the horror angle worked so well with the topic and the setting.
The way that Laure had to work so hard to still not even be viewed as equal or worthy by so many at her company is just devastating but unfortunately too realistic. But Laure isn’t backing down and as she gains power, I gotta admit, I was rooting for her, even when she was doing some questionable things! Always here for the feminine rage!!

I know this is a slow-burn horror, but it was just taking a bit too long for me, and once the horror elements started to pick up, I just wasn't engaging with them as much as I thought I would. I may come back to this at some point because it is pretty good, I'm just not feeling it at the moment.
Just not able to pay attention to it. Second time trying
The premise is very interesting, but the execution just wasn’t working for me. It was moving very slowly.

There is so much you can unpack with this book. So many themes you can pull from this book. Overall, it was way too technical. If you do not have a formal dance or ballet background, you may not enjoy this or appreciate this book. It’s YA but I feel the average teen or young adult would not like this book due to the content.
The FMC is a ballerina working her way through the ranks. She is a minority at her school and tries to fit in a prove she belongs. Nothing special about how the story is written outside of all the technical ballet terms. The FMC spends the entire book using the “powers” she gains and she still fights the same battles; racism, validation, power.

I enjoyed this a fair amount, however, I don't think I'll read the sequel. I don't think it needs one.
It could have been teased out a little more in places. The relationship with the best friend could use a bit more page time, in my opinion.
Overall, a good time. Laure is a fun character to root for even when she's being unhinged.

I think the main character is interesting. But the movement was very plot based and made it hard to root for the main character to do one thing or another. Which it was bad, just made it hard to get sucked into the story. And then life happened and when I had opportunities to go back to the book, I was just more interested in other stories.
